@joseakache

Tell us a little about yourself and where you're from.

Hola, my name is Jose Garcia. I'm an open, curious, and silly person who loves connecting and creating. I was born in SoCal but raised in the Bay Area (Richmond)

What initially pulled you toward film photography?

I was envious of someone who I knew got really good at film photography, and that envy turned into curiosity, which led me to purchase my first camera.

Do you remember the first photo you ever took that meant something to you?

The one that comes to mind is the shot I took of a father and son sitting by their truck watching the sunset together. There was something beautiful and intimate about that moment.

What made you fall in love with photography?

There are many reasons, but the main one is how it has allowed me to tap into a creativity I didn’t know I had.

When you go out to shoot, what are you usually looking for?

For me, it’s more of a feeling that I’m looking for or trying to express.

Do you develop your own film or send it to a lab?

I do not, but I’ve been wanting to explore that.

Is there a place or memory that has shaped your work the most?

The coast has my heart.

Have you ever missed a shot that still haunts you?

I would say earlier in my journey that would’ve haunted me, but I’ve been able to find acceptance around that.

What keeps you motivated to keep shooting?

My desire deepen my connection to the places I visit.

What do you hope people feel when they see your work?

I hope they feel a sense of peace, calmness, warmth, and moments of reflection.
